About me

With a corporate career spanning three decades, I have firsthand experience of working in complex and diverse environments and fostering exceptional, award-winning places to work.

Starting as a chartered accountant, I spent the first part of my career in governance and commercial finance roles in consulting and corporate environments, before following my heart into HR where I was the People & Culture Director at Lion NZ and led their Retail business.  During this time, Lion NZ’s culture was ranked in the top decile worldwide and we won several awards for our work in diversity, inclusion and wellbeing.

Subsequent to leaving Lion I completed leadership contract roles at Stuff as People Director, and at Fonterra where I supported key diversity and inclusion initiatives across the global business.

I am an accredited Workplace Inclusion Professional in New Zealand and have judged the NZ Diversity Awards for many years.  I am also an Associate Certified Coach with the International Coaching Federation and have coached senior leaders across multiple businesses.

I consider myself fortunate that throughout my career I have had many exceptional leaders and colleagues who trusted me, let me be myself and supported my growth and development.  These workplaces feature in many of my best memories and have contributed greatly to my wider life.

But there were also times when I’ve felt like an outsider at work, when I thought my opinions weren’t valued, and when I’ve been treated with disrespect.  In these instances, my workplace had a hugely negative impact on me.

I hadn’t heard about diversity, equity or inclusion in the earlier stages of my career, but I now recognise the core principles of these concepts have driven my story.  This is why I am so passionate about the power of the workplace!
